The REVIVE project participated in the 4th Innovative Sustainable Economy (ISE) Mission Innovation Camp, held on 16–17 September 2026 in Marseille, France. The event brought together experts, practitioners, policymakers and Interreg Euro-MED project partners to explore sufficiency as a complementary pathway towards sustainability, focusing on how Mediterranean territories can meet their needs while making more thoughtful and efficient use of available resources.
Representing REVIVE, Evdokia Balamou from the Larnaca and Famagusta Districts Development Agency, Lead Partner of the project, presented REVIVE’s work on Innovative Community Cooperatives and its community-based Territorial Business Model. The presentation demonstrated how REVIVE supports rural territories in moving from fragmented initiatives towards stronger cooperation among local authorities, businesses, communities and knowledge organisations, building on existing local resources, capacities and territorial identity.
The REVIVE approach is closely connected to the concept of sufficiency and efficient use of resources discussed during the Innovation Camp. Rather than simply producing or consuming more, REVIVE encourages territories to make better use of what they already have through cooperation, shorter supply chains, shared services, local value creation and digital innovation. Examples from the project’s pilots showed how cooperation among producers, tourism businesses, local authorities and communities can strengthen local economies while reducing dependency on external resources and retaining more value within rural territories.
The presentation also highlighted practical experiences from the REVIVE pilot territories across the Mediterranean, including the Cluster of Rural Larnaca, the Food Community of the Pistoiese Mountains, Istria, Pla de Mallorca, North Macedonia, the Aegean Cuisine Network and Slovenske Gorice. The pilots combine collaborative governance with digital solutions, including AR/VR and immersive experiences, AI applications, digital platforms and digital skills development, demonstrating how technological innovation can support more resilient and connected rural ecosystems.
Alongside participation in the Innovation Camp, REVIVE also contributed to the filming of content for an e-learning/MOOC module on sufficiency. The recorded contribution presents REVIVE as a practical territorial example, explaining how a place-based approach can start from the real needs and assets of a territory, mobilise cooperation between local actors, and seek a balance between economic, social and environmental value creation.
Participation in the 4th ISE Innovation Camp provided an important opportunity to share REVIVE’s experience with the wider Interreg Euro-MED community, exchange approaches with other Mediterranean initiatives and demonstrate how community cooperation, efficient use of local resources and digital innovation can contribute to more resilient, sustainable and vibrant rural territories.
