REVIVE at the Med Innovation Summit in Barcelona

04/11/2026

How can local innovation create lasting impact, and how do we ensure that the transition towards sustainability is truly just?

At the Med Innovation Summit in Barcelona, within the MedWaves Together for Impact Conference, REVIVE contributed to the discussion “From Pilots to Lasting Impact: Just Transition and Sustainable Business Models Across Territories.”

Drawing on our experience from our pilots, we highlighted the importance of place-based approaches that build on each territory’s unique needs, assets and opportunities. Lasting impact cannot be achieved through one-size-fits-all solutions. It requires working closely with local authorities, businesses, civil society organisations and communities to co-design actions that respond to local realities and create ownership from the outset.

We also discussed how a just transition is not only about environmental sustainability. It is about combining environmental goals with economic development and territorial cohesion, while empowering local actors to shape their own future. Through place-based approaches, territories can build on their unique assets, retain value within the territory, strengthen local economies, shorten supply chains, and create more resilient and sustainable development pathways.

Our key message: sustainable change happens when local stakeholders become drivers of innovation and when pilot actions evolve into long-term territorial development pathways that strengthen resilience and improve community well-being.

Thank you to MedWaves and all participants for the inspiring exchange of experiences from across the Mediterranean.
