REVIVE project was presented at “Economia de Mallorca’s Forum focused on “Regeneration of the agri-food sector” on 8th of May 2025. The meeting gathered representatives from the public administration and agri-food stakeholders to reflect on the future of the primary sector of the Balearic Islands. This was a closed-door meeting hosted by the banc BBVA.
How to reconnect consumers with local products, the challenges of profitability in the agriculture sector, the protection of the territory, the need to invest in digitalization in the primary sector and how to foster a greater consumption of local products by the touristic sector were among the topics discussed alongside this 2-hour session.
Lucía Goberna, from the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce shared the main needs that REVIVE project stakeholders have raised regarding the collaboration between the agrifood and the tourism sector and shed light on one of the key aspects to overcome this gap: digitalization. A higher digitalization would allow to better coordinate the demands of the touristic sectors with the offer of local products that primary producers could provide. By using technologies such as B2B platform or traceability codes for instance, a higher collaboration could be envisaged. REVIVE project is supporting those efforts in its pilot project area, Pla de Mallorca, thanks to the involvement of project partners AETIB (Tourist Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands) and the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce.
The day concluded with a general consensus: to regenerate the agri-food sector, it is essential to revalue local products, foster generational renewal, facilitate digitalization, and forge a real alliance with the touristic sector. Mallorca needs to reconnect with its land to ensure a sustainable future.
