The meeting was arranged by the Grouping of Municipalities Pla de Mallorca and gathered around 35 representatives from the regional and local government representatives, representatives from the cultural sector in the region and the general public. The meeting was conveyed to present the virtualization of ‘Son Fornés’, an archaeological site that now incorporates digital tools to bring history and heritage closer to the population. This initiative has been conducted in the margins of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination which is funded with EU Next Generation Funding. The meeting was attended by regional media representatives (television and newspaper).

The meeting was opened with high level regional and local authorities; President of the Grouping of Municipalities Pla de Mallorca, Joana Maria Amengual; the major from Montuïri municipality Paula Maria Amengual and the Balearic Islands Regional Government in charge of Tourism, Jaume Bauzà.

The enterprise 3DStoa Patrimonio, the company that conducted the technical work of virtualising the archaeological site and museum pieces, presented the work conducted during this last year, accessible at https://sonfornes.com/. The main feature of the project is how by means of using digital and advanced technology tools, the knowledge of the archaeological site is made available to all publics (from everywhere in the world as well to people with disabilities), promoting the dissemination of knowledge and increasing the interest in visiting the archaeological site and museum, and thus the region of Pla de Mallorca.

The presentation included a call to a larger meeting for gathering the perspectives and points of view of multiple stakeholders from the pilot project area of the Grouping of Municipalities Pla de Mallorca conveyed on 6th of June.
